Need help with the Cattle Profit Calculator?
Use this page for questions about the calculator workflow, project files, exports, calculation behavior, or a technical issue with the standalone RanchAssist tool.
Before requesting help
1. Confirm the enterprise mode you are using: Stocker / Backgrounder, Buy · Feed · Sell, Cow-Calf, or Custom.
2. Open View Calculation Details and review the formula for the result you are questioning.
3. Check units carefully, especially $/cwt, $/head, $/head/day, pounds, percentages, months, and days.
4. Confirm whether ADG or ownership days is controlling duration in a stocker or buy-feed-sell model.
5. Review shrink, death loss, commission, financing, and other Advanced Settings.
6. Compare the active scenario with the other scenario tabs to make sure you are viewing the intended case.
For calculation questions
Include:
- Enterprise mode
- Scenario name
- The result you expected
- The result shown
- Relevant user-entered inputs
- Any Advanced Settings that affect the calculation
- A short description of why the result appears incorrect
Do not send private financial documents, passwords, API keys, banking credentials, tax IDs, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
For technical issues
Include:
- Device type: phone, tablet, or computer
- Browser name and version if known
- What you were trying to do
- What happened instead
- Any visible error message
- Whether the issue occurs after refreshing the page
- Whether the issue also occurs in a new project
If the issue involves a saved RanchAssist project file, identify that it is a .ra project file and describe the error shown when opening it. Share the file only if you are comfortable with the project information it contains and only through an approved support channel.
Project saving and recovery
RanchAssist is session-first. The calculator may use sessionStorage to protect active work during the current browser session, but session recovery is not permanent saving.
Use Save Project to create a local .ra RanchAssist Project File when you want to continue later.
Use Open Project to restore a compatible saved project.
Use Duplicate Project when you want to create a new project lineage from the current model.
Clear Session resets the active browser-session project. It does not delete .ra project files or reports already saved to your device.
Export and sharing help
CSV
Exports scenario and cost information in a tabular format for spreadsheets or downstream analysis.
PDF / Print
Uses the calculator's print-optimized report. Choose Save as PDF from your browser's print dialog when available.
Copy Summary
Creates a compact text summary for notes, text messages, or messaging apps.
Email Summary
When the calculator is deployed through Google Apps Script, the app can use the Apps Script MailApp workflow to send a summary. Email sharing is an explicit user action.
Privacy questions
The calculator does not require a RanchAssist account and is designed not to permanently store standalone project data on RanchAssist servers by default. See the Privacy Policy for details about sessionStorage, local .ra project files, exports, and email sharing.
Financial or cattle-management advice
RanchAssist support can explain what the calculator does and how the formulas operate. Support cannot determine which cattle to buy or sell, what market price to use, what ration to feed, what lender terms to accept, what tax treatment applies, or whether a specific cattle transaction is appropriate for you.
For those decisions, use the professionals and records appropriate to your operation.
